Admission following Qualification from outside the Cayman Islands

If you are not Caymanian and do not hold Cayman Status or its equivalent, you may be eligible for admission to practice law if qualified in:

  1. the United Kingdom;
  2. Jamaica;
  3. or certain Commonwealth jurisdictions that have been recognised as being equivalent, for example Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

However in order to join the profession here you must first have obtained an offer of employment from a firm in the Cayman Islands. You must also have been issued a work permit under Part V of the Immigration Law, as amended. Furthermore, for all practical purposes, you must also have at least three years’ post-qualification experience at the time the application for the work permit is made.
